Allister welcomes concession by DARD

STATEMENT BY TRADITIONAL UNIONIST MEP JIM ALLISTER:
"Following the successful complaint to the Ombudsman of maladministration by DARD in 2006 in connection with the refusal of Tie-Up Aid to whitefish fishermen during the Cod Spring Closure, I had written to the Department calling upon it to match the payment to the successful complainant with a parallel payment to all the fishermen denied aid that year.
I am pleased today to have received confirmation from the Permanent Secretary that such consolatory payments will in fact be paid. I welcome this as a just and necessary step which goes a very small way towards making up for the injustice done to whitefish operators in 2006."
