Allister answers Alastair Who

12 February 2008

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

“Unelected Assembly Member, Alastair Ross, is the latest DUP representative to be enlisted in a paranoid campaign of attack upon me. However, the subject matter of his attack is rich indeed. He complains I haven’t met enough Executive Ministers, well, where would he lay the blame for the fact that having asked on 6 August 2007 for a meeting with the First Minister on European issues, I am still waiting some 6 months later! If he could persuade the First Minister to stop hiding, then this long awaited meeting could take place. So, I take no lessons from the unelected Mr Ross.

If he is interested in checking the record on work done for Northern Ireland in Europe, then I readily invite him to compare and contrast the hours, effort, speeches, meetings etc in Europe which I have devoted to fulfilling my role as MEP with that of my predecessor, Ian Paisley. It makes for informative reading, suggesting the DUP shouldn’t go there.”
