Allister issues Fermanagh South Tyrone election rallying call

04 April 2005

Speaking in Fermanagh & South Tyrone, DUP MEP Jim Allister QC, issued a rallying call to Unionists of all shades to unite to take back the constituency from Sinn Fein.

Mr Allister said, “In this constituency the goal for Unionists, of all shades, is winning.  Defeating Sinn Fein comes first, far ahead of Party loyalty.  For years when the junior partner in Unionism DUP voters had to vote for Ken Maginnis.  Now that the DUP leads, the obligation on all those who want Gildernew defeated is to vote for the Unionist who can win, Arlene Foster. To vote otherwise is to assist Sinn Fein.

Fermanagh & South Tyrone is fortunate to have a candidate of such high calibre.  Arlene will restore to this constituency representation so lamentably lacking under republican abstentionism.

Just as the clear majority of Unionists in this constituency rallied behind me in the European Election so that we could defeat Sinn Fein and keep Unionism ahead, so, I believe, this time the urge to win will unite the broad spectrum of Unionism behind Arlene Foster. It can be done. Let’s do it!”
