Allister Demands Early Publication of Latest FVO Inspection

06 December 2007

Jim Allister QC MEP has called on the European Commission to make public the findings of the latest FVO mission to Brazil, which took place in November.

Mr Allister said,
“The manner in which the Commission delayed publishing the March FVO inspection findings until 8 months later, was completely unacceptable. On the basis of the many recurring breaches of EU production standards detected then, and the bigger Political picture of a WTO deal pending, it is no surprise that the Commission would wish to deflect attention by arranging a further inspection, which I understand has just been completed.”

“Commissioner Kyprianou has given written assurances that the Commission is ready to take ‘further action as appropriate in light of the outcome of that (November) mission’.

Therefore, I have tabled the following Parliamentary Question to Mr Kyprianou:

When will the Commission make public the findings of the latest FVO inspection in Brazil, and when will a decision be taken on imposing import restriction measures if shortcomings were detected as in the previous inspections in March 2007 and in 2006?
