Allister challenges McGuinness

08 November 2007

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

“This morning’s attempted murder of a police officer is utterly appalling and wrong, just as every terrorist shooting over the last 40 years was wrong and unjustified. I look forward to the perpetrators being brought to justice.

I note McGuinness’ comments, but the real test of his sincerity is will he urge the same co-operation with the police to solve the hundreds of unsolved attacks on the police in Londonderry and elsewhere which happened over the years, including himself telling all he knows, given his leadership role in the terrorist organisation which perpetrated most of them.  If he wants to be taken as genuine in calling, as deputy first Minister, for the bringing of terrorist criminals to justice, then let him make the same call in respect of the terrorist crimes committed when he was First Minister of terror!  Weasel words come easy to Sinn Fein, let their actions, in clearing up past crimes, do the talking.”
