MEP comments on Irish language education row

19 September 2007

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

"The DUP protests about the Sinn Fein Minister's decision to give priority to 3 new Irish Language schools, while closing other schools. These are fair criticisms, but they raise the issue of why, then, the DUP did not use the much-acclaimed accountability safeguards to call in these decisions. Weren't we repeatedly told Sinn Fein Ministers would not be able again to impose unwanted decisions? Why, then, are we not seeing actions, rather than words?"
