Allister welcomes Parish visit

20 August 2007

Jim Allister MEP has welcomed a visit by the Chairman of the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee, Neil Parish MEP to Northern Ireland.

‘Mr Parish’s visit has given local farming leaders the opportunity to discuss with him major areas of EU Agriculture Policy, particularly as we look ahead to the CAP Health Check in coming months.’

Issues discussed included CAP reform, Brazilian Beef concerns, feed prices and Less Favoured Areas.

Mr Allister continued,
‘Politically, it is a welcome development to have a UK MEP in the Chair of this influential committee, and someone who has 20 years practical farming experience.’

‘I trust the agri-food industry will take up the invitation extended by Mr Parish, to pass on local points of concern for the attention of the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee. As a substitute member of that committee I am happy to continue to facilitate this process, as we seek to restore a measure of commonsense to EU decision-making.’
