Allister urges bands to avail of Arts Council funding

19 June 2007

Jim Allister, Member of the European Parliament for Northern Ireland has welcomed the launch of a new fund by the Arts Council for Northern Ireland which is designed to provide bands and musical groups with instruments. The Musical Instruments for Bands Scheme will open on August 1st 2007 and will close on August 30th 2007 at 4.30pm. The MEP urged as many bands as possible to apply for the funding in this round. There will be another round of funding in 2008.

Jim Allister said:

“The launch of the Musical Instruments for Bands scheme is a most positive development. In Northern Ireland we have a wide range of musical groups and bands, ranging from classical styles all the way through to marching flute bands and pipe and drums. This fund can be availed of by all of those involved in musical activity.

The fund opens for applications on 1st August and I would urge all who are interested to apply for funding at this stage. Even if groups aren’t successful the first time around they will be able to apply again next year for funding. I welcome the establishment of this programme and hope that it will bring benefit to all our communities.”
