Allister visits Balmoral Show

18 May 2007

MEP Jim Allister paid a visit to Balmoral Show on Wednesday, to see at first hand Northern Ireland agriculture’s showcase event.

Mr Allister commented,
‘Balmoral is an opportunity to remind the entire population of Northern Ireland, town and country dweller that we should all take pride in our local agricultural industry, and in the quality of locally produced food.’

He added,
‘Northern Ireland food is produced to the most stringent standards in terms of animal welfare, environmental and safety considerations. It is vital that producers receive this recognition among the Northern Ireland public and further afield, as they seek to develop new markets for locally produced food’.

‘As increased feed costs impact on the profitability of a number of farm sectors, retailers and processors must recognise the full worth of Northern Ireland produce. Consumers also have their part to play in ensuring we have a sustainable and profitable industry in the future.’
