Barroso meets Dublin Foreign Minister in Belfast, but not MEPs

01 May 2007

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

"I regret that during today's visit to Northern Ireland by EU Commission President Barroso there will be a breach of the normal protocol operative when a Commissioner visits an MEP's constituemcy, namely that he/she at some point meets the local MEPs.

I have made my view known to the Commission and sought an explanation, particularly since President Barroso is finding time to meet in Northern Ireland the Foreign Minister of another member state."
