Raymond McCord and Sinn Fein in Strasbourg

20 April 2007

Statement by Jim Allister MEP:

"I greatly regret the fact that Raymond McCord has agreed to have his visit to the European Parliament next week (Tuesday 24 April), hosted and promoted by Sinn Fein.

Not surprisingly, Sinn Fein is eagerly using it to advance their anti-police campaign, with renewed allegations about that republican catchphrase, "collusion".

In order to counter their propaganda I have sent the following email to every MEP:-

Once more Sinn Fein is prepared to jump on any bandwagon to vilify the police in Northern Ireland.

You should be aware that the Ombudsman's report referred to has been heavily criticised for its lack of objectivity and balance. In this regard an extensive critique has been published by the "Northern Ireland Retired Police Officers' Association". I recommend this document to you. It can be viewed at

I do not intend to stand by and allow Sinn Fein to again drag the good name of the RUC through the mud."
