WE WILL NOT BE DECEIVED BY VAIN WORDS - ALLISTER

WE WILL NOT BE DECEIVED BY VAIN WORDS – ALLISTER

Responding to the motion passed by the Ard Fheis, DUP MEP Jim Allister repeated that its key content lay in its last paragraph, which permitted any support by Sinn Fein for policing and the rule of law  only when they got into government and a timeframe for devolving policing and justice was achieved.

“Thus”, said Mr Allister, “republicans demand the DUP first jumps into government with them before they will condescend to support the police. Well that cannot happen. The DUP Executive has made it very plain that what is required is upfront delivery, tested and proved over a credible period. Nothing less will do.

So, Sinn Fein, despite all the hype, has again failed to deliver. These barren words will not do. Delivery to our satisfaction remains the imperative. No delivery, no government.

There is no point in HMG expecting the DUP to roll over and sell out on its principles, the challenge rather is for Government to face up to this failure by Sinn Fein and, if they want an election and devolution by 26 March, then let those democratic parties, who have proven their commitment to the rule of law, get on with the business of governing. Why should everyone else be punished for Sinn Fein’s default. They’ve had long enough to prove their democratic credentials and they’ve failed. They have excluded themselves.”
