NI victory hailed in European Parliament

During a late night debate in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on fisheries, DUP MEP Jim Allister, managed to weave in congratulations to Northern Ireland on its momentous defeat of Spain. Having congratulated the Spanish rapporteur for her report, he then commiserated with her on the defeat of "the mighty Spain" by "my small country of Northern Ireland" at Windsor Park in Belfast.
The Euro MP went on to congratulate Northern Ireland Supporters for today winning the prestigious, EU and UEFA endorsed, Brussels International Supporters Award 2006, describing this as a good day for NI and its wonderful football fraternity.
