Allister comments on projects funded by the CRC
19 May 2006
Over the last 12 months I have proactively encouraged groups from the Protestant community to apply to the Peace II extension programme for funding. Like all other Peace II extension programmes, applications to the Community Relations Council have increased significantly compared to previous rounds to the Peace programme. Commenting Mr Allister said,
“Due to the large increase in applications I am aware of many worthwhile projects that have applied and not got funded by the CRC. I would have liked to see greater funding going to groups that have not previously received funding from the Peace programme and more money going to under privileged Protestant areas. Nevertheless I am encouraged that there are examples of Peace funding being delivered to the Protestant community.
With the announcement of a Peace 3 Programme I am working to ensure that money is more effectively delivered in the next Peace programme. I have already met the Community Relations Council and the Special EU Programmes Body on this issue. With a diminishing pot of money, it is vital that the final round of money is not squandered by implementing bodies and is targeted towards projects that will have a real economic impact.”
