Allister enjoys lifting of the beef ban

17 May 2006

Jim Allister MEP marks the end of the beef ban.

Jim Allister MEP sampling British Beef at a reception in Strasbourg to mark the end of the beef ban.

Commenting Mr Allister said, "Though 2 weeks later than the Northern Ireland reception in Brussels to mark the return of our beef to the Europeran Market, I was delighted to join in this UK-wide celebration of the end of the 10 year beef ban.  With high quality product we can reclaim our market, but we must avoid redtape inhibitions and give our producers and exporters a real chance to engage in fair competition.  Thus DARD must as a matter of urgency resolve the difficulties impeding the exporting of our finished live cattle.  Live exports are critical to the success of our return to the European market and therefore the foolish opposition of the animal rights lobby and the UUP through its MP, Sylvia Hermon, must be faced down."
