Allister as delegate to Interparliamentary Forum
07 May 2006
On Monday and Tuesday of this week a major parliamentary forum will be convened in Brussels on the future of Europe. It will be composed of 140 national MPs from the 25 Member States and 70 MEPs from across Europe. Jim Allister will be one of a handful of UK MEPs and the only MEP from Northern Ireland to participate.
Speaking today at the start of the two day gathering Jim Allister said, “I’ve no doubt strenuous efforts will be made to use this forum as part of the stratagem to resuscitate and refloat the rejected Constitution. I will be there to join with other opponents of the Constitution to reiterate why it remains unacceptable and to promote “State Rights” over further centralisation. The recent Eurobarometer poll for the Commission shows declining support across Europe for the EU, with support in Finland, Austria and the UK languishing around 30%, and well below 50% in France. Less Europe, not more is the desire of its citizens and this is the message I will promote at the Forum.”
