Jim Allister's message for 2006

02 January 2006

“Within Europe it is my hope that the on-going attempts by Euro-federalists to revive the proposed EU Constitution will fail and suffer the same rejection as inflicted by France and Holland in 2005.  Certainly, I will be directing my energies to thwarting all attempts to further centralise the EU and impose an unwanted and unnecessary Constitution. If the centralising forces in Europe have as bad a year in 2006 as they had in 2005, then I will be well pleased.

Within Northern Ireland I hope for further exposure of the duplicity and machinations of Sinn Fein/IRA.  It is important that true democrats hold the line against the re-establishment of rigged government with unreconstructed terrorists. Whatever the pressures from the British Government, exercised by making Direct Rule increasingly unpalatable, Unionists must resist the trap of allowing the reinstatement of the structures of the failed Belfast Agreement.  “Green” Direct Rule is bad, but IRA Rule is worse.  Relentless pressure must be sustained on Sinn Fein/IRA to abandon not just all terror, but all criminality, and such must be demonstrably and irreversibly delivered.  My hope, therefore, for 2006 is that it can bring us closer to durable democratic devolution, which by definition must be neither tainted by terror or criminality, nor exercised by those so tainted.”
