Jim Allister pays tribute to George Best in European Parliament

01 December 2005

During today's session of the European Parliament Northern Ireland MEP, Jim Allister, paid the following tribute in the Chamber to George Best:-

"In recent days, my small country of Northern Ireland has lost its most prodigious sporting talent ever.  I refer, of course, to the death of George Best.

Whatever of his much documented lifestyle off the field, on the soccer field he had world stature.  His dazzling and electrifying skills put him in a league of his own.  In consequence he was much loved and admired across the world.  Accordingly, it is fitting that in this international parliament the passing of such a sporting colossus should be noted. I, therefore, take this opportunity to salute his sporting memory and convey, on behalf of us all, condolences to his son, aged father, brother and sisters."
