MEPs meet Rooker on Peace Funding

12 October 2005

MEPs Jim Allister and Jim Nichloson today met with Lord Rooker in London to discuss the current PEACE II Extension Programme and how to secure a more balanced distribution of funding to groups from the majority community.  The MEPs focused in particular on Measures 2.4 and 2.7 and expressed concern at the capacity of the allocated funding body, CFNI, to be able to distribute the funding on an even-handed basis.

Since these Measures deal with victims and low community capacity, they are critical to getting more money into the hitherto under-funded community.

The MEPs invited Lord Rooker to take time to visit a representative victims group to see the beneficial work that is being done and the potential for further progress.  Lord Rooker responded positively to this invitation and thus the MEPs look forward to facilitating a direct engagement between the Minister and victims' and other relevant groups.
