Allister meets Colombian Vice President in Brussels

23 September 2005

DUP MEP Jim Allister today met with Vice President Santos on the occasion of a visit of a Colombian Government delegation to the European Parliament.

Mr Allister urged the Vice President to stand firm in Colombia's demand for the extradition of the Colombia 3.  In response, Mr Santos indicated that Colombia would indeed be resolute in its insistence that these international terrorists are returned.  In discussion with Mr Allister the Vice President indicated that it was his view that the IRA was most probably recompensed for its training of FARC guerrillas by payment in both drugs and hard cash.

Commenting on his discussion with Mr Santos, the MEP said:-

"I welcome the visit of the Vice President of Colombia to Brussels today.  My discussion with him complemented by colleague Jeffrey Donaldson's recent visit to Colombia and was a worthwhile opportunity to stress again that victims and opponents of terrorism in our country are looking to his Government to relentlessly press Dublin to end its shameful sanctuary for international terrorists."
