TUV Challenges Republic's Involvement in Talks

17 January 2013

Responding to news that the Irish Republic’s deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore is to be involved in talks at Stormont today TUV leader Jim Allister said:

“Whatever happened to the DUP position that the Republic of Ireland should have no say in matters relating to the internal affairs of Northern Ireland (Strand One issues)?

“Having seen what happened the Protestant minority in the Republic we all know what the Southern vision of a “shared future” looks like!

“How do people believe that discussions with a foreign government – which still aspires to take over the state of Northern Ireland – will help to ease Loyalist fears about their identity and sovereignty?

“It says a lot about the disconnect between the political establishment and many ordinary Unionists that Peter Robinson can meet an Irish government Minister while remaining in hiding from people in his own constituency!”
