TUV comments on Unionist Forum
09 January 2013
While TUV Leader Jim Allister will not attend Thursday's meeting of the Unionist Forum, because of a pre-arranged commitment (there was no consultation about the time and date of the meeting), two party officers will be present.
However, TUV makes it plain it does not have high expectations of this forum. Commenting Jim Allister said, "The problem with this forum, as I see it, is the elephant in the room which most participants will not want to address. I refer to the fact that the key participants are those who sustain in office the very party, Sinn Fein, whose aggressive cultural war has led to the present crisis. Indeed some of the First Minister's talk about sustaining "the process" suggests a priority which will guarantee the gravy train of concessions to IRA/Sinn Fein.
"High sounding talk about addressing loyalist concerns mean nothing from those whose primary goal is to keep Sinn Fein, and thereby themselves, in office.
"Moreover, on past performance, I suspect this forum is more about creating the impression of acting on the grassroots concerns of unionists, rather than actually doing anything, certainly nothing that would upset the DUP/Sinn Fein applecart."
