Clarke's speech on Terrorism
07 September 2005
Comment by Jim Allister MEP on Clarke's speech to the European Parliament
today:
"Charles Clarke is right to defend the rights of the targets of terrorism
over the perpetrators of terrorism. He is wrong, however, to place reliance
on centralised Brussels action over the paramount right and duty of the
member state to defend its own citizens.
I must also comment that I cannot forget that this tough talking Home
Secretary represents the same Government which shamelessly released hundreds of convicted terrorists onto the streets of Northern Ireland, in an attempt to placate the very terrorists who had bombed all parts of the UK, including London. Will history repeat itself in the fight against Islamic terrorism?
I hope not."
