Sinn Fein Mask Slips Again
17 December 2012
Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“Sinn Fein would have us believe that they have no control over or links to so-called “dissidents” but every now and again the mask slips and the public get a glimpse of just how cosy the relationship between the different strands of Republicanism is.
“We saw an example of this on Saturday when Barry McElduff acted as minder for Aiden Coney while he was out on bail to attend his daughter’s christening. During a hearing in Omagh last Tuesday Coney’s solicitor produced a letter from McElduff saying the Sinn Fein MLA would drive his client to and from the service and remain by his side at all times.
“Coney has been on remand since May charged with taking part in a weapons training camp and possessing firearms.
“Coming just a few months after Sinn Fein/IRA Minister John O’Dowd acted as a minder to Martin Corey during a funeral this is yet more evidence of the pan-Republican nexus which exists. When it suits, Sinn Fein/IRA denounce so-called dissidents as traitors but then they campaign for their release from prison and act as official escorts when they are released on parole.”
