Ministers for Victims Snub IRA Victims

17 October 2012

Reacting to the news that Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness have failed to respond to a request to meet the family of IRA murder victim Paul Quinn THREE YEARS since the request was sent TUV leader Jim Allister said:

“The murder of Paul Quinn has been the most stark example of the nonsense of Sinn Fein/IRA’s supposed support for the rule of law. On 11th March 2008 DUP chairman Lord Morrow told the Assembly:
One day they (Sinn Fein) will say we backed the police, the next day they stand up and pontificate and say Paul Quinn wasn’t murdered by the IRA. They must be about the only people on this planet that believes that.”

“Like countless other victims of IRA violence the Quinn family have been denied justice.

“The challenge which Lord Morrow and others in the DUP need to face is that their leader simply does not care. Does Lord Morrow care enough to demand from Peter Robinson an explanation as to why the office which he jointly heads with a self-confessed IRA commander has yet to even respond to a letter from the Quinn family asking for a meeting after three years?

“Let’s not forget that the First and deputy First Minister are responsible for victims issues in Northern Ireland!

“It is an absolute scandal that victims of IRA violence should be treated with such contempt by the people charged by the law with looking after their interests.

“I will be demanding an explanation from OFMdFM as to why they are refusing to respond to the Quinn family’s request for a meeting. The truth is that Stormont just wishes the victims would disappear as their existence is a reminder of just how rotten the political set up in Northern Ireland is.”
