Fury over Absent Flag at Stormont
01 October 2012
Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-
“The Orange Order did Ulster proud on Saturday. The fantastic turnout for the Centenary parade was not only a great feat of organisation, but a marvellous tribute to our Covenant forefathers and timely reminder of the strength of Unionism when it stands determined to resist that which is destructive of our British citizenship.
“The only criticism I heard was the widespread disbelief that the Union Flag was not flying from Parliament Buildings. This was a disgrace and rightly angered many who gathered to celebrate Carson’s preservation of our Britishness.
“The Assembly brought shame on itself by failing to fly the flag. When the flag is flown is up to the DUP/UUP controlled Assembly Commission. So why did they toady to Sinn Fein on this issue? This is a matter I will be pursuing in the Assembly. They can fly the flag on meaningless ‘Europe Day’, but not on meaningful ‘Ulster Day’. Shame on them.
“That apart, Saturday was a spectacular success, which even the begrudgers of Carrick Hill could not spoil.”
