Robinson Refuses to Condemn McGuinness Involvement in IRA Terror Fest

18 September 2012

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I was disappointed but not surprised that Mr Robinson failed to take the opportunity which I presented him with today in the Assembly to condemn the involvement of his co-First Minister McGuinness for fronting up an IRA terror fest in Dungiven.

“By refusing to condemn McGuinness for playing a prominent part in the demonstration Robinson showed that he will never do anything to upset the cosy relationship the DUP has with their partners in government. As I pointed out he is too beholden to Sinn Fein to say and do what needs to be done.

“The events surrounding the demonstration in Dungiven make a mockery of Sinn Fein/IRA’s supposed support for the rule of law. McGuinness’s party reached an agreement that the forces of law and order would stay well away from the Republican demonstration. Not only that but the PSNI gave them permission to break the law – which of course they have no right to do – in terms of the display of weapons and those dressed in paramilitary and police uniforms.” back to list
