Shock at FG Wilson Announcement

13 September 2012

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“The scale of the job losses announced today by a company which has been a major employer in Northern Ireland for many years is truly shocking. My thoughts are with the many families who will today be worrying about making their mortgage payments and supplying the other essential needs of the home.

“Coming so soon after yesterday’s disappointing unemployment figures, which showed that the rate had risen in Northern Ireland while it had fallen in the UK as a whole, this is a devastating blow, made all the more difficult to bear by the fact that the jobs are being transferred to China. This is a company which only last year was boasting a significant increase in its profits and which, with the help of Invest NI, had become one of our most important exporters. Now, with no loyalty to Northern Ireland, it triples the job losses foreshadowed in July and shifts generator production to China. I'd expect Invest NI to be looking to recoupment of any support which now falls due under its support packages."
