North-Southery loves darkness rather than light

03 July 2012

TUV Leader Jim Allister has revealed, from a North-South communication which came into his possession, that when the Dail/Stormont Working Group on a North/South Parliamentary Forum meets tomorrow it is set to approve a proposal from Assembly members that the Forum - now to be called an Association - should exclude the public from its meetings.

Tomorrow's meeting is set to fix the date for the first formal meeting of the Forum, but already the Dublin delegation has signalled its approval of this Stormont proposal that it should meet only in private. The attached documentation, including a letter from the Republic's Speaker, confirms the proposition.

Commenting Jim Allister said, "The North-South Parliamentary Forum is but the latest piece of Belfast Agreement architecture to be put in place, countesy of the DUP rolling over, after years of opposition. Now, we find - unless embarrassed into change by this expose - that they will meet only behind closed doors. What have they to hide? If it is as innocuous as some now suggest, why ban the public and also the press? It is clear that north-southery loves darkness rather than light."
