TUV slams tricolour proposal

11 April 2012

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:

“The fact that the Stormont Commission is set to debate the flying of the Irish tricolour, but has done nothing, in this Jubilee year, to restore its portrait of Her Majesty to Parliament Buildings, is indicative of the toxic power of IRA/Sinn Fein in Stormont.

“Indeed, even my cross-unionist party motion to debate the issue of the Royal portrait has been buried by the Business Committee. Yet, time can be found by the Commission to debate the flying of a foreign flag. The Speaker chairs both the Business Committee and the Assembly Commission, so perhaps he should explain this rush to discuss flying the tricolour while debating the Royal portrait seems to be taboo.”
