Allister Rounds on IRA for Gallagher Death – and Raises issue with First Ministers

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“This morning’s statement released by the Pat Finucane Centre is nauseating in the extreme. The clear implication is that the Army were to blame for the death of young Gordon Gallagher because they failed to find the bomb.

“The reality is that the bomb which killed 9 year old Gordon Gallagher was made by the IRA. It was left in the garden by the IRA. The IRA therefore bear sole responsibility for the murder of this young boy.

“There is nothing in the statement about who was behind this attack. The IRA have done nothing to help bring those of their members responsible for the murder to justice. It will therefore be treated with contempt by all right thinking people.

“Given that joint First Minister Martin McGuinness has stated that he was a senior IRA figure in Londonderry during the 70s it is hard to believe that he does not have information about the brutal murder. I have therefore tabled an urgent written question to the co-First Ministers.”

Note to editors

Mr Allister’s question is as follows:

To ask the First and deputy First Minister has all possible help been given to the Gallagher family from Londonderry in their humanitarian quest to identify the murderer of their 9 year old son, Gordon.
