Whatever Happened to the "£800 million to underpin the police"?

01 December 2011

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“The devolution of policing and justice to Northern Ireland was sold to a sceptical Unionist electorate largely on the bases of a generous financial package. Shortly after the deal was agreed Peter Robinson penned an article in which he stated:

“We have secured a sound financial settlement of over £800 million to underpin the police and judicial system.”

“Those words sound hollow when – less than 2 years after policing and justice was devolved to Northern Ireland – we are facing the very real prospect of losing a massive 40% of our police stations including Cloughmills, Bushmills and Broughshane in my own North Antrim constituency.”
