ALL IRA Killings Were Murder

03 October 2011

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Martin McGuinness' statement to the effect that only some of the killings carried out by the IRA were murder will be grossly offensive to all victims of Republican terrorism. Intentional killing by a terrorist armed for that purpose is always murder.

"The warped outworking of McGuinness' perverse take on jurisprudence is that those deliberately butchered in cold blood, like at Teeban, Kingsmill, Whitecross, Enniskillen - the list is endless - were not murdered, but legitimately executed! None of these premeditated murders were accidental.

“What about Frank Hegarty, an alleged informer, who came back to Northern Ireland after his family received assurances from McGuinness only for him to disappear and his body found dumped on the side of the road? That was no “accident”.

“Or the use of a Roman Catholic civilian, Patsy Gillespie, as a human bomb? Was that an “accident”?

“Rather than the words of someone truly penitent for the death and suffering inflicted by his wicked IRA, McGuiness' weasel comments amount to an attempt to re-write history. It is an attempt to legitimise the IRA’s campaign, which saw numerous off-duty policemen, soldiers, UDR members and civilians murdered, and is an insult to all victims.

“McGuinness’ remarks are purely designed to defuse media attention on his past. ALL IRA killings were acts of murder.”
