120 from ROI serving in PSNI

02 August 2011

TUV Leader Jim Allister has questioned why, with so many local young people out of work and with PSNI applications constantly oversubscribed, there are 120 citizens of the Republic of Ireland serving in the PSNI.

The figures, released to Mr Allister in response to correspondence on the issue, show the following officers from the Republic of Ireland presently serve in the PSNI:

1 Chief Inspector
5 Inspectors
11 Sergeants
95 Constables
6 Part-time Constables
2 R/Constables

Commenting the TUV Leader said, “I regard it as wholly inappropriate that with so many available local recruits that places are going to ROI citizens. I know several young people who have applied and not secured a place, yet 120 recruits can be accommodated from the Republic. It is the Police Service of NORTHERN IRELAND, so why this influx of southerners?”
