Allister challenges DUP on Decommissioning

05 July 2011

TUV Leader Jim Allister has said the law abiding community has been double crossed by the IICD’s refusal to provide an inventory of allegedly decommissioned weapons.

“Decommissioning was the key stepping stone for many in accepting and justifying terrorists in government. It was offered and accepted by many on the basis of faith, underpinned by the guarantee that when the ICCD’s task was completed that faith would be proven well founded by the publication of a full inventory so that everyone could see it really happened. Now, instead, those who put their faith in the bona fides of ‘the peace process’ have been double crossed.

“Personally, I believe there never was any intention to publish the inventory and that its promise was part of the decommissioning con. More likely, the promise that was made, intending to be kept, was a promise to IRA/Sinn Fein that publication would never happen.

“The fact that on a false promise IRA/Sinn Fein has been ensconced in government throws up the biggest challenge to those who let them in, namely the DUP. The DUP boldly boasted that verifiable decommissioning was an essential precondition. Now, nothing is to be verified. From promising photographs the DUP is now left utterly conned without even an inventory.

“The question is, as those who took IRA/Sinn Fein on trust, what do they now intend to do about it? Nothing, I suspect, because power, any power, is their overriding consideration.

“No inventory will simply join the long list of non delivered promises – photographs, the return of the ill-gotten gains, the hand-over of the Northern Bank proceeds, delivery up of the killers of Robert McCartney, Paul Quinn…….

“The deception wrought on decommissioning typifies the fraud that lies at the heart of ‘the peace process’, where right is trampled and evil rewarded. Hence, the perversion of terrorists in government and terrorists advising government which passes for democracy at Stormont.”
