Allister Presses Wilson for Homecoming Parade at Stormont

15 June 2011

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister MLA:

“Many people – not just in Belfast – were disappointed when plans for a homecoming parade in our capital city fell through. In light of this I have tabled a question to the Minister for Finance and Personnel asking him to make representations to the Ministry of Defence about the possibility of hosting such an event at Stormont.

“Stormont, in light of its history, is a prestigious venue where a fitting tribute could be paid to those who have fought to bring democracy and freedom to Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Given that DUP Minister Sammy Wilson has remit over the grounds I can think of no reason why such an event could not take place.”
