Why the Gagging Order?
09 June 2011
TUV Leader Jim Allister has expressed disappointment that the initial plan to take Questions to the Prime Minister, after his address in the Assembly chamber, has been abandoned and has queried why this change was made.
In a statement Mr Allister said:-
"While the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is a welcome guest in the Assembly, I believe acceptance of his offer to answer questions ought to have been accepted and would have made it a much more useful exercise. I can think of no good reason why questions are being denied. It seems Stormont's aversion to the norms of democracy is even informing this occasion."
