Why still no debate on McArdle?

08 June 2011

On 25th May Jim Allister MLA tabled the following motion:

That this Assembly notes with dismay and disgust the appointment by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure of a convicted murderer as her Special Adviser.

Two weeks later it has still not been assigned a slot.

Commenting today Mr Allister said:

"Despite some media posturing by the DUP, the fact is that they have no appetite to have this matter debated on the floor of the Assembly. As the DUP and Sinn Fein control the Business Committee, they are clearly blocking the debate. There is a desire in Stormont, from those who have no problem sharing power with convicted terrorists, to sweep this under the carpet. The reality is if they can elevate convicted terrorists as ministers they really have no difficulty with a convicted terrorist as such a minister's special adviser.”
