TUV condemns McGuinness visit to Ballymoney

28 March 2011

TUV has condemned last Friday's unannounced visit by Martin McGuinness to Ballymoney.

In a statement TUV Leader Jim Allister said, "The spectacle of IRA Godfather McGuinness strutting around Ballymoney with his DUP buddies, Peter Robinson and Mervyn Storey, was a sickener for many. Clearly, the DUP has forgotten who this man is, but those who care about the innocent victims of his IRA have not.

With Council funding involved in the Dunlop Memorial Garden, Cllr Audrey Patterson has demanded to know why the plan to bring McGuinness was concealed from councillors. "Even supposed DUP insider, Cllr John Finlay, may have been kept in the dark, but that is for him to clarify. For my part the DUP bringing McGuinness to Ballymoney is indicative of how far that party has abandoned all pretence of holding to its former roots and principles. Smuggling McGuinness into town, without telling anyone, is how the DUP now does its politics."

"I, therefore, condemn both the fact of the visit and the duplicity which surrounded it", added Cllr Patterson.
