TUV condemns Ruane’s rampage through education

18 March 2011

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

“Not satisfied with having diverted millions into Irish medium schools and wrought havoc with education since coming to office, Catriona Ruane now wants Irish taught in every school in Northern Ireland. (I wonder is there an Irish word for ‘Northern’ or just ‘North’?)

“Those Unionists who let Ruane anywhere near education have a lot to answer for. As for their empty boast that they could veto her every action, it lies in tatters as she rampages through education utterly unfettered.

“Since 2007, while controlled schools have struggled for funds, she has given approval for seven Irish nursery school units, five new Irish primary schools and two post-primary Irish units. Yet, in my own local area we’ve been waiting for years for a nursery unit at Moorfields Primary School. She has no money for such a necessity, but plenty to squander on her Gaelic agenda. The sooner she and her ilk are out of office the better.”
