McGuinness and his Stalinist tendancy

14 March 2011

Responding to Martin McGuinness’ Belfast Telegraph interview TUV Leader Jim Allister said:-

“In boasting that he will veto an Opposition in Stormont and any change away from unworkable mandatory coalition, Martin McGuinness confirms what I have long believed, he is inherently Stalinist and anti-democratic in outlook.

“Having an opposition and being able to vote parties out of government are cornerstones of democracy. When McGuinness rejects both in Stormont he rejects the essence of democracy, as of course he did for decades as an IRA commander.

“He also displays the rank hypocrisy of Sinn Fein. They campaign in the Republic to vote the Cowan government out and take to themselves the mantle of opposition, but dare to suggest parity of rights in Northern Ireland and they are in the trenches defending the undemocratic status quo.

“McGuinness’ boast also underscores the folly of those who gifted Sinn Fein such a veto and the deception of those who are pretending they will negotiate change. Transformation to voluntary coalition is possible, but it requires democrats to refuse to operate the mandatory model and thereby force change as the basis upon which Stormont will continue.”
