Stop staring South - Vance

01 March 2011

"Northern Ireland's future economic growth is dependent on our ability to move away from the failed North/South view and instead advance an East/West vision for trade", says TUV economics spokeman David Vance in response to the latest Ulster Bank review of manufacturing exports.

"It is obvious that the entire DUP/Sinn Fein driven North/South focus on economic development has created circumstances which mean that our smaller companies have endured a massive 20% decline in exports to the Republic of Ireland over the past year. This unhealthy and unsustainable situation must change which is why TUV advocates fundamental change in economic perspective.

"We must help our local companies maximise exports to the rest of the UK, mainland Europe and BRIC nations. In a big world of business, the focus on the bankrupt Republic is detrimental to NI future prosperity. We need to look East, and West and stop staring South"
