DUP dance to Sinn Fein tune on plastic bag tax

01 March 2011

TUV spokesman and Upper Bann candidate, David Vance, has responded to the news that the DUP and Sinn Fein have joined forces to vote for reduced scrutiny of the
controversial plan to tax plastic bags.

"Once again we see that anti-business agenda of the DUP/Sinn Fein axis in action. Even as Friends of The Earth, the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association and the British Retail Consortium flag up the negative impacts of this ill considered legislation, which Sinn Fdein drafted, they arrogantly proceed to push it through. Sadly, again, for the DUP keeping Sinn Fein happy is more important than doing the right thing.

"At a time of great pressure on local business, the Executive seeks to further increase costs on it, showing their complete detachment from economic reality and their disinterest in helping our business owners."
