Why is Police Ombudsman blowing in the wind?

21 February 2011

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

“With what credibility can the Police Ombudsman emerge from his ‘blowing in the wind’ approach to the McGurk Bar explosion? Last year he found the police conducted a “reasonably thorough investigation”. But today he somersaults into criticising the RUC and finding “investigative bias”.

“Which Al Hutchinson should we believe, the one who spoke last July, or the one who speaks the opposite message today? It is hard to escape the conclusion that opposition to his first finding forced his volte face. One thing is clear, one finding, or the other is flawed. Both can’t be right.

“I fear the Ombudsman has greatly damaged his standing today.”
