Public to pay for hotels for overworked MLAs! What next?

14 February 2011

Commenting on news that MLAs are to be put up overnight at public expense to get their work finished, TUV Leader Jim Allister said:-

"After 4 years of only 2 days a week in the Stormont Chamber, many of which ended early, I don't think the public will feel too sorry for MLAs having to turn up on a couple of extra sittings on Wednesdays and most will be appalled that our work shy MLAs might need cosseted, at public expense, with overnight hotel stays.

"Is a £500,000 subsidy for their restaurant food not enough? Now they need free hotel accomodation to get them to do a week's work after 4 years of the best paid part-time job in Ulster?

"This sudden spurt of effort, after these 4 years of indolence, is a transparent attempt to impress the public with their industry. The public will not be that easily fooled."
