Paterson, cheer leader for McGuinness, confirms real agenda of Belfast Agreement devolution

04 February 2011

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister

“The Secretary of State’s declaration on BBC that McGuinness being elected First Minister would be “an extraordinary endorsement of the progress that has been made”, not only tells us a lot about Owen Paterson, but reminds us of the purpose and nature of the Belfast Agreement arrangements under which we are misgoverned.

“If the election of IRA leader McGuinness as First Minister epitomises progress, then it should remind every unionist of just how perverse and anti-unionist the present governmental arrangements are.

“Mr Paterson may see ‘progress’ (to where?) in the elevation of IRA Godfather McGuinness, but the families of thousands of victims of his wicked IRA see an unbearable insult and revelation of just what the so called ‘peace process’ was all about – the rewarding of terrorism and the triumph of evil over good. It is time that not only Mr Paterson considered his position but also those unionists who have already made McGuinness Joint First Minister and who day and daily prop up a system designed, it seems, to produce such a grotesque outcome.”
