TUV warns against letting economically illiterate Sinn Fein anywhere near fiscal powers

02 February 2011

Responding to the news that further talks on Corporation Tax have taken place between Executive Ministers and the Secretary of State Owen Paterson along with a Treasury Minister, TUV Economics spokesman David Vance has alerted unionists to the great dangers to which Peter Robinson, Arlene Foster and Sammy Wilson are exposing  the Northern Ireland economy.

"Following discussions on possible changes to Corporation Tax, Martin McGuinness gives the game away when he whinges about "being hampered by lack of power." IRA/Sinn Fein wants to grab the levers of economic power through the control of taxation locally , and this is precisely  what foolish DUP politicians seem intent to offer him.

"At Hillsborough Sinn Fein were gifted Policing and Justice, now, as their next staging post, they seek taxation powers extracted from London.  When one considers the immediate and substantive impact on the Northern Ireland block grant, the instability introduced into the broader UK business base, the fiscal separation of Northern Ireland from Great Britain, not to mention  the grim prospects of McGuinness and his associates controlling something as vital as the tax base - surely not even the DUP would sacrifice that in pursuit of power? Or would they? Sadly, sounds like it!"
