TUV calls for Assembly Motion of No Confidence in Murphy
05 January 2011
Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-
“With Murphy defiantly refusing to face up to his lamentable failures and his resulting responsibility to resign, it is time for a Motion of No Confidence in him to be tabled and debated in the Assembly.
“While the DUP has been tellingly silent about their Sinn Fein partner, both UUP and SDLP spokesmen have called on Murphy to resign. Now, they must press the matter with a No Confidence motion.
“If TUV was in the Assembly we would be tabling such a priority motion, forcing the issue onto the floor of the Assembly and thereby forcing other parties off the fence and Murphy into the open.
“Absurd and lacking in accountability as the present rigged Belfast Agreement arrangements are, surely even under them a minister would not have the effrontery to cling to office once demonstrably he had the confidence of no one other than his own party payroll? The matter and the system needs to be so tested and because the failings of Murphy in his dealings with NI Water are so gross, this is the time to so it.
“I, therefore, challenge the MLAs to bring a No Confidence motion to the Assembly as the first business next week and let’s see if IRA/Sinn Fein’s defiance of the democratic will is as strong in Stormont as it was in its terrorist killing sprees.”
