Both Blackberry MacKenzie and Inept Murphy should go - Allister

30 December 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"The very fact that the failed DRD Minister, Murphy, should express confidence in 'Blackberry MacKenzie' as Chief Executive of NI Water, shows how out of touch he is with reality.

"The inescapeable truth is that the senior management of NI Water, under the control of Minister Murphy, has utterly failed the consumers of Northern Ireland. It is because Murphy is trying to dodge the buck stopping with him, where it truly rests, that as a shield he is professing confidence in those he has kept in place in the senior management of NI Water.

"Let it be remembered, this is a Minister who has readily meddled in the control and management of NI Water, as when he summarily removed 4 Directors. So, he can't pretend it is all something beyond his control and responsibility. His fingerprints are all over the selection of the dirtector teir of NI Water and, thus, when they fail, as they have, he fails. Hence, his anxiety to prop them up. It is a self-preservation strategy.

"Meanwhile, across Northern Ireland people suffer needlessly because of the collective ineptitude of the Minister and his Agency, NI Water.

"Instead of trying to brazen it out, Murphy should, like the Scottish Transport Minister, face up to his failings and go. Of course, he won't, because he is secure in a Sinn Fein feifdom far beyond the reach of the normal rules of accountability, thanks to the perversion of mandatory coalition."
