Allister condemns Gildernew for politicising Fisheries Protection
13 December 2010
Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-
“Minister Gildenew’s decision to give the new Fisheries Protection Vessel an Irish language name, ‘Banrion Uladh’, is calculated to be provocative and divisive. She knows it will be rightly resented in the fishing communities of Portavogie and Kilkeel, but it is her puerile way of driving home her authority and the reality of Sinn Fein rule.
“It is equally foolhardy in health and safety terms because in radio transmissions at sea understandable names are a contributor to countering the hazards of life at sea. But, what does Sinn Fein care about equality considerations or such matters? Clearly they matter less than pushing their sectarian republican agenda!”
